Our Policies

All hostel policies relating to cancellations, changes, and no-shows apply to all guests, groups, and parties equally. No exceptions are made under any circumstances and all policies are non-negotiable. Making our policies firm helps us ensure that all guests and groups are treated equally and fairly. We strongly recommend reviewing our policies as well as obtaining travel insurance.

The hostel has a 7 night maximum for all accommodations.

PAYMENT

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking for all accommodations, tours, train tickets, and coach tickets. Groups of 9 or more may secure reservation with a 20% deposit, please SEE DETAILS BELOW. We accept all major credits, debit cards, and cash. A credit card is required to be kept on file for cash payments. Checks are not accepted. Posted accommodation rates are subject to a 7% bed tax. 

CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT

Check-in time is 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Please notify us if you plan to arrive after 10:00 PM so that we can make late check-in arrangements. 

Check-out time is strictly 10:00 AM.

Early check-ins and late check-outs are generally not possible.  However, we are happy to store your luggage for you at no charge until your accommodation or transportation is ready. Extended luggage storage is available for $5 per bag per day.

QUIET HOURS

Quiet hours are from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. The common facilities are accessible during this time but we ask that you are respectful of other guests who may be sleeping nearby. 

LATE ARRIVALS & NO-SHOWS

Guests arriving after 10:00 pm are still able to check-in for their reservation. We will leave a Late Arrival notice next to the office door complete with directions to your accommodations, common buildings, a map, and additional property information. Guests that have not arrived by 7:30 am the following morning and have not notified us will be treated as a No-Show. The reservation will be cancelled and will not be refunded.

RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE

The hostel reserves the right to refuse service for any reason, particularly if we believe the enjoyment and safety of other guests is at risk of being negatively impacted. Violations of hostel policies can result in eviction without refund. 

DORMITORY RESTRICTIONS

All guests booking accommodations at the hostel must be at least 18 years of age unless accompanied by an adult. Parties with children under the age of 12 must secure private accommodations. In dormitories, children aged 12 through 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

CHILD POLICY

All children under 5 years old stay free in private rooms and cabins. Children under 5 are not allowed in the Oxbow Private Room. Children under 14 are not allowed in the Razorback Cabin.

MAXIMUM NIGHT STAY

While we'd love to be able to accommodate all of our guests for the entire summer, our maximum night stay is 7 nights.

DAMAGE TO CABIN / ROOM / COMMON AREAS

We reserve the right to charge guests for the cost of rectifying or repairing damage caused by the deliberate, negligent, or reckless act of the guest to the hostel property or structures. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest’s credit / debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. We will however make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialists to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.

HOSTEL SHUTTLE

Guests planning on using the complimentary hostel shuttle upon arrival in Denali must inform us in advance. If you are unsure of your transportation methods at the time of booking please update us once your travel arrangements have been made. Guests driving a personal or rental vehicle don't need to utilize our shuttle service. Shuttle rides after your initial arrival can be arranged at the hostel office by signing up on the shuttle board. The shuttle is for hostel guests only. 

PETS

Well behaved pets of all types are welcome in private accommodations. Up to two pets (up to 50 pounds each) are allowed to stay in private cabins and rooms for a fee of $20 per night. Pets are not allowed to stay in dormitories, the Oxbow Room, or the Cable Car Room because these are located in the common building. If you are staying in a dormitory, you're welcome to keep your pet in your vehicle overnight - there is no additional fee for pets in vehicles, but please note that we experience nearly 24 hours of daylight during the summer and your vehicle may be too hot at times, even overnight. You may not leave your pet at the hostel while you are off property under any circumstance (not in your vehicle, a crate, or in your private accommodations).

The hostel reserves the right to refuse or cancel your stay if your pet barks too much, scares other guests by being excessively aggressive, vocal, hyper, etc. In such circumstances you will be asked to leave without a refund. Owners are responsible for cleaning up any pet messes and pets much be kept on a leash at all times. Pets are not allowed inside common areas. 

SMOKING & VAPING

Smoking and vaping of all kinds are strictly prohibited on our property and in all buildings except for in designated smoking areas. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the fresh clean air that our remote location has to offer. Guests who do not comply will be charged a $250 room recovery fee in order to restore rooms to a smoke-free condition.

ALCOHOL

Alcohol may be responsibly consumed in the common areas and private cabins. Consuming alcohol in dormitories is not allowed. We reserve the right to take appropriate actions against drunk or unruly guests. 

MARIJUANA / DRUGS 

While marijuana is legal both medically and recreationally in the state of Alaska, the hostel does not permit smoking, vaping, or ingesting marijuana on property.  This extends to all dormitories, private accommodations, and shared common areas.  Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on property.

KITCHEN PROTOCOL 

Guests are responsible for cleaning any dishes, utensils, or kitchen tools that they use.  Any messes made in the microwave, on the stove, or in the fridge should be cleaned up. Please label all of your food and personal grocery items with the last name on your reservation and your check out date. In consideration of other guests please use the kitchen facilities in a timely manner.

SHOWER HOUSE

In consideration of other guests please use showers and other shared facilities in a timely manner. Toiletries and other personal belongings must be kept in your accommodations and may not be stored in the shower or bathroom. 

STAFF HOUSING

With the exception of the Emergency Camper located next to the hostel office, all staff housing is private and guests are not permitted to approach or attempt to reach hostel employees in their private space. 

INCLUSITIVY 

The hostel is dedicated to social inclusivity and aims to provide a safe, welcoming, and judgement-free environment for all of our guests. The following traits or behaviors will not be tolerated: aggressiveness, rudeness, evasiveness, hostility, poor hygiene, behavior that is inappropriately suggestive or sexual, or excessive impairment related to drugs or alcohol. 

LINENS

We provide all linens, pillows, blankets, and towels for your stay. To ensure cleanliness we do not allow personal linens in any of our accommodations. If you're in need of extra bedding or blankets please don't hesitate to ask! 

IDENTIFICATION 

In order to verify trip details and ensure guest safety, the lead guest on each reservation must provide a valid form of government-issued photo ID at check in such as a driver's license or passport.

TOURS, TRAIN TICKETS, & COACH TICKETS

Cancellations: Cancellations must be made 3 days in advance of the tour to be eligible for a refund. No refund (full or in part) will be given for cancellations made less than 3 days prior to the tour. In the case that a tour operator cancels the tour, a full refund will be given. All tours go rain or shine. Don't let the weather deter you! Tour operators are local experts and they know how to manage the weather to provide you with the best experience. It may be rainy at the hostel but sunny on the tour route. Prices are subject to change.

 

 

 

BOOKING POLICIES SPECIFIC TO ACCOMMODATION TYPE

 

      1. PRIVATE ROOMS, PRIVATE CABINS, & GROUPS UP TO 8 PEOPLE

Cancellations: To be eligible for a refund, you must cancel your reservation at least TWO WEEKS in advance of the reservation. Cancellations made less than two weeks in advance of the reservation will not be refunded.

Changes: Changes to reservations must be made at least TWO WEEKS in advance of the reservation. For changes made within TWO WEEKS that reduce the price of your original reservation, there is a change fee of 20% of the changed portion of the original reservation. 

 

      2. DORMITORY BEDS & CANVAS CASTLES (FOR GROUPS UP TO 8 PEOPLE)

Cancellations: To be eligible for a refund, you must cancel your reservation at least THREE DAYS in advance of the reservation. Cancellations made less than three days in advance of the reservation will not be refunded.

Changes: Changes to reservations must be made at least THREE DAYS in advance of the reservation. For changes made within THREE DAYS that reduce the price of your original reservation, there is a change fee of 20% of the changed portion of the original reservation. 

 

      3. GROUPS OF 9 OR MORE & COMMERCIAL GROUPS

Payment: Groups of 9 or more and commercial groups are required to pay 20% of the reservation quote at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to arrival. Failure to pay in full at least 45 days in advance will result in cancellation of the reservation and forfeit of the down payment.

Cancellations: To be eligible for a refund, you must cancel your reservation at least THIRTY DAYS in advance of the reservation. There is a cancellation fee of 20% of the cancelled reservation. Cancellations made less than thirty days in advance of the reservation will not be refunded.

Changes: Changes to reservations must be made at least THIRTY DAYS in advance of the reservation. For changes made within THIRTY DAYS that reduce the price of your original reservation, there is a change fee of 20% of the changed portion of the original reservation.
