Applications for the 2019 season are available now and must be submitted by January 31, 2019. The work season begins on May 10 and ends September 21, 2019.
Our mission is to provide a safe, clean, fun, and caring environment for our guests and employees where the opportunity to experience Denali National Park is nurtured.
Employees help create a memorable experience for our guests from around the world during what might be their one-and-only trip to Alaska. Our employees make the difference between a great stay for our guests and a stay that is nothing special. To make every guests’ experience special, we need staff that can provide helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly service with a dedication and commitment to our mission. We depend on our staff to continue our tradition of being a great place to stay and work.
We strive to locate and hire high quality people to create a tight-knit and caring team. To that end, employees need to be team players who naturally cultivate a positive experience for guests and staff alike. As employers, we do everything we can to help you have a fun summer working in a friendly atmosphere. Denali is our home; we love it and we want to enable other passionate people to live and work in the most beautiful place on earth.
Being a staff member of the Denali Hostel means that you are part of a team of people who have fluid and dynamic responsibilities throughout the day and season. We strive to create harmonious living and working conditions and expect everyone to assist co-workers with responsibilities to the best of their ability when needed. Employees should be efficient, organized, courteous, and amicable. Employees are expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
Because of the dynamic responsibilities required, all applicants must possess strong multi-tasking skills and excellent focus. It is important to have outstanding and professional interpersonal skills and to be able to remain calm and courteous in what can be a busy and demanding day-to-day operation. Employees must have strong attention to detail and thorough cleaning and organizational skills.
The two main job positions are Front Desk and Housekeeping. Both of these positions may include Shuttle Driver duties as well, driving to and from the park entrance area to pick up and drop off our guests, once or twice per shift. Front Desk staff are expected to perform duties of Housekeeping once per week, and on occasion everyone will be asked to pitch in on high volume check-out days. Depending on ability, all staff will also be asked to work on various projects on property including, but not limited to: deep cleaning, maintaining the fire pit area, stocking firewood, making signs, general maintenance, and beautifying the cabins & grounds.
In general, we expect employees to work 40 hours per week for the entire duration of the work season. Schedules are generally 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, with 2 consecutive days off. This schedule is flexible depending on the skill sets and desired schedules of employees. Occasionally, overtime will be required. We also want to provide you the time and opportunity to get out into the park and explore Alaska when possible.
On-site housing is provided for a small rental fee. We have clean, cozy campers with electricity, heat, refrigerators, and stove tops. Rent includes utilities and wireless Internet access. Employees have access to the common kitchen, bathrooms, showers and laundry. These common amenities are also used by the guests (who are mostly gone during the day).
The location of the Denali Mountain Hostel is considered remote. Although we are located on the highway system there are no major towns nearby. There is access to medical help and supplies nearby. Employees are expected to be independent, self-sufficient, and adaptable.

Season end bonuses are available to all employees at the discretion of the employer. Besides getting to live and play in the Denali National Park area, we are a vendor for MANY local tours including rafting, flight-seeing, photography, guided hikes, and many more! In exchange for helping to market these tours to our guests, you will be able to try out all of the tours for a low cost or compliments of the tour provider (opportunities vary based on tour provider policies). You will also experience the unique adventure of getting to be part of a seasonal community full of other fun and exciting people from around the world!
You will be responsible for your own transportation to Alaska. We will give you information on the best ways to get here. We are located about 4 hours north of Anchorage and about 2.5 hours south of Fairbanks. There are some small markets with limited offerings about 15 miles north of us, and one grocery store in the town of Healy, about 25 miles north of us. For most other services, you will need to go to Fairbanks or Anchorage. If you do not have a personal vehicle, we will help you make arrangements to get supplies.
We are located about 14 miles south of the entrance to Denali National Park- tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist hub, located on a creek and in a mountain valley with amazing access to the wilderness right at your doorstep! Just across the road from our property, there are two restaurants and a fun pub where lots of other seasonal employees socialize and hang out. At the entrance area, there are tons of outdoor adventures, gift shops, and restaurants all within walking distance. If you do not have your own vehicle, you can catch a lift on our shuttle to the park entrance area, as long as there is room after all the guests have boarded.
Denali Hostel & Cabins provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants for employment and to all employees without regard to age, race, color, disability, national origin, religion, sex, sexual preference, veteran status, genetic predisposition or any other protected classification. Employment actions include but are not limited to recruiting, job assignment, training, promotion, transfer, rates of pay and other forms of compensation and benefits.
